Analysing shop displays

Shop displays are a great way for a business to tell you a little bit about themselves, and can be good for enticing in new customers by showing a hint of their product range, or by advertising a sale. So what does a particular shop display say about a particular business?
Shop displays vary substantially in their content, feel, and style, and usually you can tell right away the particular market that the business is aiming for. If there’s very little in the window, or what’s there is very stark, spare, and abstract, you can know pretty much off the bat that you’re looking at a high end retail shop. This is particularly the case if the shop frontage is very small–everyone knows that the smaller a shop the bigger its prices!
Other shop displays will give you a better idea of the range that they stock, and will focus more on the products that they sell rather than the story that they wish to tell. This is typically the case for low to moderate cost shops, and also for chain stores. These window displays can be great in that you don’t need to go inside the shop to see whether the range inside suits you: you’ll be able to tell right away whether they sell the sort of clothing that you’re after.
A final type of shop window display will be covered in all manner of signs advertising huge sales and so forth. Always be wary of these, as there’s often small print involved! While these sorts of shop window displays can be a great way of finding out about a sale, they can also be quite tricky for the buyer, and you may find yourself coming out having spent far more than you intended to. Try not to get sucked in by retail display trickery, and you’ll do fine.
